The KI standard wants to turn your kitchen countertop into a wireless

A new charging standard is about to make your carefully designed kitchen obsolete — and completely transform the way we power electrical appliances in the kitchen.

-

The WPC organization brings together more than 300 leading manufacturers from around the world to establish wireless charging standards.

The organization focuses on three areas:
The QI standard covers portable devices such as smartphones.
The KI standard covers kitchen appliances.
The LEV standard covers light electric vehicles such as e-bikes.

The goal of these standards is to ensure interoperability across different manufacturers, with a strong emphasis on user safety.

-

The new KI standard enables power transfer of up to 2,200W — more than enough for any kitchen appliance.

What makes it particularly remarkable is its ability to transmit power through solid surfaces such as wood and marble.

This means that an entire countertop could be electrified, allowing every appliance to operate without a single power cord.
