Let's talk for a moment about a different kind of ghosting — not the one that immediately springs to mind.
-
We're all familiar with ghosting in the professional world, where employers put candidates through a lengthy hiring process and then simply vanish, or from the world of dating.
But there's another kind of ghosting entirely.
-
Chances are you occasionally ask for quotes.
Maybe you reached out to a graphic designer to create something for you, or you inquired about purchasing a service and a salesperson put together a tailored proposal based on your requirements.
Maybe you went to view an apartment with a real estate agent who blocked out time in their calendar, made a special trip, and spent half an hour walking you through the property and answering your questions.
Sometimes you never even meet these people face to face — they're part of the sales team at a website you visited — but they're there.
-
The men and women you exchanged messages or conversations with are real people, just like you.
They have packed schedules, worries, and the capacity to be disappointed — just like you.
Reaching back out to let them know you're not interested in their product or service probably isn't the most pleasant experience, but we owe it to them to be human and decent enough to do it.
If they made an effort and invested meaningful time for us when we asked them to, this is our small opportunity to give something back and show them that we respect them.
Have a great week!
