Academic bars in China blend beer with university lectures

A new trend is gaining momentum in China — and it has nothing to do with fashion.

-

"Academic bars" have been popping up across China, where patrons listen with great interest to academic lectures over a glass of beer.

The lecturers are genuine professors from academia, and the topics covered are wide-ranging.

One can debate just how effective this kind of learning is, but in the right dose it is certainly a uniquely positive and enjoyable educational experience.

The phenomenon has existed in Israel since 2010.

The initiative belongs to the Weizmann Institute, which launched the activity in the city of Rehovot before expanding to Tel Aviv under the name "Science on the Bar."

The event continues to take place every year, drawing large crowds.
