A digital iron curtain: the internet is splitting into rival blocs

We are in the midst of an anti-globalization process that is pushing humanity many years backward.

This is evident in the trade war between China and the United States — a complete reversal of the free-market policies that have guided the West for decades.

It is evident in the social polarization and cultural inward turn, amplified and inflamed all the more by the Facebook-owned social networks.

It is evident in Russia's total disconnection from the West, as its internet becomes a parallel universe to the global internet — much like China's.

It is evident in the endless rearmament of every Western nation, in preparation for a Third World War that is steadily taking shape.

Another small brick was recently added to this virtual iron curtain.
The United States has banned TikTok from operating on its soil until its American operations are sold to a US company (and frankly — they are absolutely right to do so).
In a retaliatory move, China announced the removal of WhatsApp, Signal, and Telegram from its app stores.

The modern iron curtain is not built of stone and mortar, but of digital bits racing across the internet.
The cultural and communicative fragmentation of the internet will in turn make it easier to dehumanize other nations and peoples — and may ultimately lead to a full-scale world war.
