It's a bluefin tuna weighing 276 kilograms, auctioned off at Toyosu Market — Japan's most prestigious fish market.
Although auctions are held there throughout the year, the Japanese believe the first tuna of the new year brings good luck, which is why it commands an especially high price.
The winning bidder was Sushi Onodera — a Michelin-starred restaurant chain — marking the fifth consecutive year their bid has taken first place.

That price tag may sound excessive, but back in 2019 a comparable tuna weighing 278 kg sold for $3.1 million, making this latest purchase look like quite the bargain.
